I’m back in SLC after nearly three weeks in Boulder and eager to get back to the build. While in Boulder I went to the Shelby American Museum in Gunbarrel and, as always, it was inspiring. The museum has the GT40 Mk II 427 driven by Ken Miles to a 2nd overall at the 1966 Le Mans in the most controversial finish in the race’s history. I’d just finished ‘Go Like Hell’ about the Ferrari / Ford competition to win Le Mans, so it was amazing to see the actual Le Mans car driven by Miles. The museum also has CSX 3032 (#99) that I’m using for my design inspiration.
I left SLC with some things dangling that I need to get to straight away: 1) finishing the 3-link by installing the Panhard bar; 2) getting the rear brakes attached. I ordered the Breeze offset steering rack bushings while in Boulder and they arrived yesterday so I can start on the on the steering system. I also ordered metric crowfoot wrenches but SAE ones were delivered but since one can’t have too many tools I reordered the metric set and am keeping the SAE set. I’ll need the metric set (14 mm) for torquing the bolts holding the caliper hanger bracket to the axle.
It’s blazing hot here (~100) and the Mitsubishi heat pump that I’m using to cool the shop went South. It’s under warranty but the technician is having trouble determining what the problem is. He ordered a new ‘driver’ (i.e., the mother board) but that doesn’t seem to solve the problem so I can only really work in the AM before the shop heats way up.
